Pillow Shopping in Ireland

Pillows vary in height, firmness, shape and filling. This guide helps you compare those features. It cannot tell you whether a pillow is responsible for pain or other symptoms.

Height, shape and preference

Retailers often organise pillows by sleep position. Treat that as a browsing aid, not a prescription. Check the measured height, firmness description and whether the filling is adjustable. Try a sample where possible and ask about hygiene-related return exclusions.

Pillow types

  • Moulded foam: Check the shape, dimensions and whether the cover is removable.
  • Shredded foam: Ask whether filling can be removed and whether replacement filling is sold.
  • Hollowfibre: Compare fill weight and washing instructions.
  • Down or feather: Check the composition, sourcing information and care requirements.
  • Latex: Read the material description and ask about any allergy concerns.
  • “Cooling” pillows: Check what the claim refers to, such as a cover or a particular layer.

Replacing an existing pillow

Inspect its condition and care label. A replacement schedule or fold test is not a diagnosis of poor support. Consider whether the product still matches your practical needs and ask about the supplier’s expected care and lifespan.

Where to enquire

Check local bedding and homeware shops or the current ranges at DFI Beds and Emma Sleep Good. We have not selected or tested a specific pillow. Confirm availability, measurements, delivered cost and returns.

Questions for the seller

  • Does it fit your pillowcase?
  • Can the pillow itself be washed, or only the cover?
  • Can it be returned after opening?
  • Are replacement covers or filling available?
